About the Author

Bob Blitzer is a native of Manhattan and received a Bachelor of Arts degree with dual majors in mathematics and psychology (minor: English literature) from the City College of New York. His unusual combination of academic interests led him toward a Master of Arts in mathematics from the University of Miami and a doctorate in behavioral sciences from Nova University. Bob is most energized by teaching mathematics and has taught a variety of mathematics courses at Miami-Dade College for nearly 30 years. He has received numerous teaching awards, including Innovator of the Year from the League for Innovations in the Community College, and was among the first group of recipients at Miami-Dade College for an endowed chair based on excellence in the classroom. The Book... Is Fantastic

Hopefully the unfortunate people who wrote these reviews do not influence people who might like to read the book itself. I have had some really great experiences with purchasing books here and some not so great however, THIS BOOK IS ONE OF THE BEST FOR UNDERSTANDING COLLEGE LEVEL MATH. I am a big Blitzer fan and I wish I could afford all his books but, I bought this book because my other college textbook was awful.

The problems start off easy and graduate in difficulty. This allows you to learn to handle a new concept before intergating it with techniques you have already mastered. I believe this and the fact that Blitzer explains advanced mathematical techniques in plain english makes this book the best I have ever read concerning this level of mathematics.

I am a mathematics major and found that this book gave me a much better understanding of math.

If only he would write a book on calculus and a dictionary of mathematical notation my life would be a lot easier next term.

Excellent Book!

This book teaches a real understanding of the concepts, not just memorization or how to enter the data into a calculator. I am returning to college after a 27ish year hiatus, and needless to say, needed some brushing up.

The first text that I attempted to use was given to me by a co-worker and omitted much of the understanding needed to progress.

We, as a nation, need to LEARN again, not memorize, and this book actually teaches!

Great Math Textbook

I used this book for an accelerated Algebra/Trig class at the college level. I found this book to be one the best math books I have ever encountered. When examples are given in the text it goes step by step and for most, explanations of what is being done. Other texts that I've used have skipped steps and left you wondering how did they get from A to Z?

I wasn't always able to make it to class, but the examples and explanations did not loose me and I was able to play catch up successfully on my own with this text. I can't say that about any other math text.

I must agree with the other person who wrote a review and said it would sure be nice if Blitzer had a Calculus text (though Larson is a good Calc author). Calculus would have been a breeze with a Blitzer book instead of a stuggle (had to buy a Larson book to supplement by school's Calc book choice).

This is the single book you will need to facilitate growth and evaluation of coalitions. This book is excellent for the researcher as well as the practitioner. It is not just another theory book but one that will give you concrete advice and tools. You won't need a PhD to read and use this book but all levels of practice and research will soon find this book to be their favorite resource.

This book is a must first-read book for all of our funded grantees working with coalitions. We provide this book to all funded sites, fellows, and evaluation staff.

Coalitions are a great resource for promoting community change but they can quickly run off-track without the right nurturing. This book will be the resource of choice for anyone charged with the nurturing of a coalition.

I was searching Amazon.com for books on coalition building and came across this book last spring and ordered it as I was a part of starting a state coalition for diabetes. And I am really glad that I did. It not only gave our coalition a great working foundation full of wisdom and knowledge from someone who has been there, but I know that we are forming a solid coalition using the tools and suggestions that are in the book. It really has been our coalition bible, and my book is highlighted, underlined, with post-it note tabs through out the book because the information is so valuable and useful. This is the perfect book if you are developing a coalition, would like to develop one, or have a coalition already in existence. You will avoid pitfalls and build a strong coalition following the recommendations in this book. You will not be disappointed with it.

About the Author
Peter J. Dowling (Ph.D, The Flinders University of South Australia) is a Professor of Human Resource Management at La Trobe University. Peter is President of the International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management (IFSAM), a Vice-President of the Australia & New Zealand International Business Academy, a Life Fellow of the Australian Human Resources Institute and a Senior Research Affiliate of the Center for Advanced Human Resource Studies at Cornell University. Former roles include past National Vice-President of the Australian Human Resources Institute and editor of Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources (1987-1996).

Marion Festing is Professor of Human Resource Management and Intercultural Leadership at ESCP-EAP European School of Management in Berlin, Germany. Her previous appointments include the University of Paderborn, Germany, and she has gained educational, research and work experience in France, Australia, Tunisia, Taiwan, and the U.S. Dr. Festing's current research interests focus on transnational HRM strategies, global careers, and global compensation. Her publications include a book on strategic international human resource management (Strategisches Internationales Personalmanagement, 2e) and a co-authored text on international human resource management (Internationales Personalmanagement, 2e). In addition, she has written or co-authored more than 50 book chapters and journal articles, as well as published in such international journals as Management International Review, Economic and Industrial Demography, European Management Journal, and International Journal of Globalisation and Small Business. Dr. Festing serves on the editorial boards of Career Development International, Journal of Management & Organization, International Journal of Globalisation and Small Business, ZFP-German Journal of Human Resource Research, and Zeitschrift F�r Management. In 2006, Dr. Festing served as co-chair of the IHRM track at the IFSAM conference in Berlin. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Paderborn.

Allen D. Engle, Sr. is a professor of management in the College of Business and Technology at Eastern Kentucky University, where he has taught courses in management, human resource administration, organizational behavior, organizational theory, and international management. He also has been a visiting lecturer at the FHS - Hochschule F�r Technik, Wirtschaft und Soziale Arbeit, St. Gallen in Switzerland, and a visiting professor of international management at the University of Pecs in Hungary. Dr. Engle is a national and regional professional member of World at Work (formerly the American Compensation Association) and the Society for Human Resource Management, as well as a longtime member of the U.S. Academy of Management. His research interests are in the topic areas of compensation theory and practices, leadership and organizational change, job analysis, managerial competencies, and organizational design -- particularly their impact on multinational firms. Published in regional, national, and international academic journals, Dr. Engle has presented academic papers at conferences in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Slovenia, Spain, and the United Kingdom. He also has consulted for regional firms and presented professional seminars in the areas of performance appraisal systems, executive team building, strategically responsive compensation systems, intercultural management issues and organizational change. He received his D.B.A. from the University of Kentucky.

I love this book!

I have to say that I've read other translations/versions of the Bhagavad Gita. I personally have studied the cultural background of this and other books of Hindu faith (I was a theology major in college.), but have always found parts of the Bhagavad Gita hard to understand. And when I'm not really 'getting' what I'm reading I find it hard to retain the message. What Edward has done here is give us the message of the Bhagavad Gita in a form that the western mind can wrap around and retain. This really brings the message of the text into a form that is within the grasp of anyone who is open to the idea of God without limits and the knowledge of the eternal origin of all.

Great read! I finally "get it"!

I can't remember how many times I've taken my copy of Bhagavad Gita down off the shelf to read. Not far into it I've felt lost and, well, a little stupid. What relief to finally find a translation that makes sense to me, is easy to follow and provides the inspiration that I've been looking for in all those other attempts to read this ancient tome!! I have no doubt that the next time I pull my more detailed volume of Bhagavad Gita off the shelf I will be able to read through it with more depth of understanding. I highly recommend this for anyone wanting a true primer and greater understanding of the original prose!

An easy-to-read introduction

This would be a good door opener if you have some interest in the Bhagavad Gita. Some years back I began a study of the Gita and bought this book to get me restarted on that path. It pretty much accomplished what I wantewd it to do with a quick, easy and pleasant read. Don't expect it to go into any detail though, as it simply skims along the surface of the story without revealing much of its deeper meaning.

That said, if you are just getting introduced to the story this would be an excellent way to get started.
